Can you introduce yourself?
My name is Sandra Boskamp. I moved here several years ago from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and I currently work and reside in Dripping Springs. I primarily work in oil paints.
What inspires you to create?
I'm inspired by so many things. The world is built with so many fascinating sites and visions. I like to see new places. I've done pieces that are inspired by fashion, by nature, by architecture, and it really depends on the piece.
How long have you been a full time artist?
I really started working, I really started cracking down when I moved here to Austin several years ago. I did a bunch of work back in Milwaukee. I've been painting ever since I was a kid. I used to make my own dolls on those like fortune teller origami pieces and, you know, I've always just been creating since I was young. Yeah, and I think ever since I moved to Dripping Springs, I've really cracked down. Once the pandemic started, I was like, I'm really going to focus on this thing that I love and see where it takes me.
Can you share a bit about your process?
I usually start my paintings by pouring acrylic, whether that be just directly poured onto the canvas and then I use multiple different tools to create a pattern that is visually appealing. So, I'll use a squeegee or a broom or a dustpan, and from there I take it into my iPad which I use Procreate app and I try to place my subject around that paint pour. They all deal with the complexities of our inner worlds, the constant cycle of thoughts, anxieties, and emotions that accompany us. And that's my current theme.
Final Words?
I say do what you love, life is short, and don't let anybody come in your way of doing what you love.
